Although French carmaker Peugeot doesn’t build the most interesting production cars, it does have a knack for cranking out some jaw-dropping concepts. Over the years, it’s done everything from building electrically-powered off-road buggies and fire engines out of city cars, to V12-powered grand tourers and a diesel-powered Elise sports car. After the rather bulbous, new-for-2007 207 subcompact, Peugeot will be serving this racy four-door sedan for the Paris Motorshow.

This is the 908 RC, and it will probably be the most insane vehicle to debut at the Paris show, this September. It’s a large, very graceful looking four-seat, four-door coupe (a-la Benz CLS), but, the real kicker is that it’s powered by a racing car engine. Under the lengthy schnozz is Peugeot’s new 5.5-litre, 100-degree V12 engine that makes 700 horsepower and 885 lb-ft nm torque. But there’s a catch: it’s a turbodiesel. The 908 RC is the car which will debut Peugeot’s new racing diesel engine which it will fit to an open-topped racing vehicle for next year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, to dethrone Audi, no doubt. Interestingly, because of the front-mid engine position, the 908 RC actually has two trunks, which have a sum total of 550 litres.

With that said, this is car’s forte isn’t doing to 0-100 km/h; it’s doing extreme things like covering the standing kilometre in just 22 seconds, going over 300 km/h, and coming to a stop in very short distances with its humongous carbon-ceramic disc brakes. It’ll also be comfortable to drive and ride in, as the six-speed gearbox shifts automatically, volumptuously furnished interior cossets, and
